Bandstand Busking presents BouZaTina - The Left Bank Village

BouZaTina are a popular duo from Bishop’s Castle in the South Shropshire Hills. We combine their love of iconic, popular ballads with our passion for traditional Irish music.

Our name: is a combination of our main instruments Bouzouki and Concertina

  • “BouZaTina: ½ bouzouki + ½ concertina = 100% great music!”

Our music: is both lively and melodic, including well-known but seldom-covered songs and ballads, as well as exciting Irish and Celtic tunes.

  • “Inventively interpreted songs from well-known names such as Alanis Morrisette, Carole King, Cyndi Lauper, Elton John, Sandy Denny, Kate Bush, Rod Stewart, Nora Jones, Roberta Flack and others, interspersed with lively Irish tunes – an unusual, but surprisingly comfortable mix!

Our background: As multi-instrumentalists we met through playing in some of the excellent Irish sessions in the UK and Ireland. We share a deep respect for traditional Irish music.

As well as performing as a duo, we form half of the traditional Irish band The Flying Toads described by the music press as “traditional Celtic music at its best!” The ‘Toads’ are in demand at many music festivals including: the ‘Festival International de Folklore d’Issoire’ France; the ‘Kilrane Music Festival’ Ireland and ‘The Bath Folk Festival’. In April 2018 we have a residency at the legendary ‘Mulligan’s Irish Music Bar’ in Amsterdam.

We also play with the Dutch-based Celtic band The Wild Geese, regularly touring Holland and Germany to perform at large venues, including the ‘International Theatre’ in Frankfurt and the ‘Zaisersweiher Folk Festival’ near Stuttgart.

Our live gigs: BouZaTina play at festivals and venues all over the UK including: ‘Fishguard Folk Festival’; the Malvern Cube Theatre; the ‘Green Man Festival’ Clun; ‘Michaelmas Fair Bishop’s Castle; ‘Music-Fest’ Church Stretton; Stroud Music Club; Housman’s Wine Bar Church Stretton; ‘Folk in the Foyer’ Conquest Theatre Bromyard; the Vaults Bishop’s Castle; the Griffin Oswestry and the Wheatsheaf Shrewsbury.
